Tsiati | Apprenticeship and Workshop on Traditional Timber Construction

The training will offer:

        Apprenticeship for new craftspeople-carpenters: 2 – 27 September 2024

        12-day experiential workshop: 16 – 27 September 2024

The program will provide the opportunity to a total of twenty-four (24) participants from Greece and abroad to contribute to the restoration works of the Frasta School in Tzoumerka, a new research and educational structure developed by Boulouki in Epirus. The activities will focus on traditional and sustainable timber construction techniques, ranging from the raw material to specialised applications. Through an expanded public program of events, the project will also function as a hub for the exchange of knowledge and good practices around the interpretation, promotion, and protection of the rich heritage of timber in traditional construction.

 More specifically, the program includes:

 For the Apprenticeship of new craftspeople-carpenters:

      Paid employment in a restoration and renovation project

      Participation in the educational activities of the workshop

 

For the 12-day experiential workshop:

      Hands-on practice on sustainable timber construction through a restoration and renovation project

      Lectures and presentations by renowned researchers

      One-day excursion to sites of architectural and cultural interest in Ioannina

      Conference day on the topic of vocational training in timber and traditional building techniques
