The traditional blacksmith’s craft of Steven and Brecht Dujardyn: Inspired by the Sacred Fire

Who, in their childhood, has not heard stories about the local blacksmith who, with his hammer, iron arms and a focused gaze, shapes glowing metal? The gentle echo of the hammer on the anvil attracted curious onlookers who came to take a look at the softly lit forge. A nostalgic image for some, a reality for those who know the brothers Steven and Brecht Dujardyn from Oostrozebeke.

It all began 30 years ago in the small forge of Wilfried Dujardyn Senior, where he restored his collection of antique carriages. It was the spark that still fuels the brothers’ passion for the ancient craft of blacksmithing. To satisfy their thirst for traditional techniques, Brecht and Steven attended, from the age of 15 and each on their own, the rare blacksmithing courses offered in Belgium, as well as courses in aesthetics, drawing and art history that are part of a blacksmith’s training. After passing the entrance exam with the Compagnons du Devoir, Brecht began his training there in 1998.

In 2001, the traditional and artisanal forge Dujardyn artconcept was founded, where the two brothers, while forging, bring matter to life. From design to delivery and installation, we do everything to assist our clients.

Le métier du forgeron traditionnel Steven et Brecht Dujardyn: Inspirés par le Feu Sacré

Qui dans son enfance n’a pas entendu des histoires à propos du forgeron local qui, avec son marteau, des bras de fer et un regard concentré, donne forme au fer brûlant. Le doux écho du marteau sur l’enclume attirait les curieux qui venaient jeter un coup d’oeil à la forge doucement éclairée. Une image nostalgique pour certains, une réalité pour ceux qui connaissent les frères Steven et Brecht Dujardyn d’ Oostrozebeke.

Tout a commencé il y a 30 ans, dans la petite forge de Wilfried Dujardyn père qui y restaurait sa collection d’anciens carrosses. C’était l’étincelle qui alimente toujours la passion des frères pour l’ancien métier d’artisan forgeron. Afin d’assouvir leur soif d’anciennes techniques, Brecht et Steven ont suivi des l’âge de 15 ans, et chacun de leur côté, les rares cours de forge proposés en Belgique, ainsi que des cours d’esthétique, de dessin et d’histoire de l’art qui font partie de la formation d’un forgeron. Après avoir passé l’examen d’entrée auprès des Compagnons du Devoir, Brecht y a commencé sa formation en 1998. En 2001, la forge traditionnelle et artisanale Dujardyn artconcept est née, où les deux frères, tout en forgeant, font prendre vie à la matière. De la conception à la livraison et l’installation, nous faisons tout pour aider nos clients !

El oficio del herrero tradicional Steven y Brecht Dujardyn: Inspirados por el Fuego Sagrado

¿Quién en su infancia no ha escuchado historias sobre el herrero local que, con su martillo, brazos de hierro y una mirada concentrada, da forma al hierro incandescente? El suave eco del martillo sobre el yunque atraía a los curiosos que venían a echar un vistazo a la fragua suavemente iluminada. Una imagen nostálgica para algunos, una realidad para quienes conocen a los hermanos Steven y Brecht Dujardyn de Oostrozebeke.

Todo comenzó hace 30 años, en la pequeña fragua de Wilfried Dujardyn padre, donde restauraba su colección de antiguos carruajes. Fue la chispa que aún hoy alimenta la pasión de los hermanos por el antiguo oficio de herrero artesano.

Para saciar su sed de técnicas antiguas, Brecht y Steven siguieron, desde los 15 años y cada uno por su cuenta, los escasos cursos de forja ofrecidos en Bélgica, así como cursos de estética, dibujo e historia del arte que forman parte de la formación de un herrero. Tras superar el examen de ingreso en los Compagnons du Devoir, Brecht comenzó allí su formación en 1998.

En 2001 nació la fragua tradicional y artesanal Dujardyn artconcept, donde los dos hermanos, mientras forjan, dan vida a la materia. Desde el diseño hasta la entrega e instalación, hacemos todo lo posible para ayudar a nuestros clientes.

Il mestiere del fabbro tradizionale: Steven e Brecht Dujardyn, Ispirati dal Fuoco Sacro

Chi, durante la propria infanzia, non ha mai sentito racconti sul fabbro locale che, con il suo martello, braccia di ferro e uno sguardo concentrato, dà forma al ferro incandescente? Il dolce eco del martello sull’incudine attirava i curiosi che venivano a dare un’occhiata alla fucina dolcemente illuminata. Un’immagine nostalgica per alcuni, una realtà per chi conosce i fratelli Steven e Brecht Dujardyn di Oostrozebeke.

Tutto è iniziato 30 anni fa, nella piccola fucina di Wilfried Dujardyn padre, dove restaurava la sua collezione di antiche carrozze. È stata la scintilla che alimenta ancora oggi la passione dei fratelli per l’antico mestiere di fabbro artigiano. Per soddisfare la loro sete di tecniche antiche, Brecht e Steven hanno seguito, dall’età di 15 anni e ciascuno per conto proprio, i rari corsi di forgiatura proposti in Belgio, così come corsi di estetica, disegno e storia dell’arte che fanno parte della formazione di un fabbro. Dopo aver superato l’esame di ammissione presso i Compagnons du Devoir, Brecht ha iniziato lì la sua formazione nel 1998.

Nel 2001 è nata la fucina tradizionale e artigianale Dujardyn Artconcept, dove i due fratelli, mentre forgiano, danno vita alla materia. Dalla progettazione alla consegna e all’installazione, facciamo tutto per aiutare i nostri clienti!

Het traditionele smidsambacht van Steven en Brecht Dujardyn: Geïnspireerd door het Heilig Vuur

Wie heeft zijn ouders of grootouders niet horen vertellen over de plaatselijke smid, die met zijn gespierde armen en geconcentreerde blik het roodgloeiende ijzer met de hamer op het aambeeld in vorm brengt ? De zoete weerklank van de hamer op het aambeeld was voor de meeste nieuwsgierigen een aanleiding om even in de schaarsverlichte smidse binnen te komen. Voor sommigen pure nostalgie…maar voor de mensen die de broers Steven en Brecht Dujardyn uit Oostrozebeke kennen is dit tot heden nog steeds een waarlijk gebeuren.

Het begon allemaal 30 jaar geleden, in de kleine smidse van vader Wilfried Dujardyn, bij de restauratie van zijn verzameling antieke koetsen. Bij de twee jonge broers was dit ‘de ‘vonk’ die nog steeds de passie van dit eeuwenoude en traditioneel beroep als siersmid aanwakkert. Om hun leerhonger naar oude technieken te stillen, volgden ze vanaf hun 15jarige leeftijd, elk op hun vlak de zeldzame echte smeed-opleidingen in België; ook tekenen, beeldhouwen, esthetica en kunstgeschiedenis behoren tot de opleiding van een siersmid. Nadat ze in 1998 geslaagd waren in het ingangsexamen bij de gerenommeerde Compagions du Devoir, ging Brecht er op 19jarige leeftijd smeden. In 2001 werd de traditionele en ambachtelijke siersmederij Dujardyn artconcept geboren waar ze al smedend leven in de materie brengen.
