Lena Cohen Jewellery is a family run London atelier creating contemporary minimalist everyday fine jewellery in 18k solid gold designed for everyday wear. As an independent jewellery designer in the UK, Lena takes the city itself as a reference, looking to Londoners who combine ease and elegance and finish simple outfits with real gold earrings, bracelets and necklaces. The collection centres on everyday minimalist jewellery and curated ear styling with diamond studs, huggie hoops, small charms and stackable rings that are easy to layer and to build into a personal jewellery wardrobe.

Materials and techniques. Production is small batch, with all metals and gemstones sourced through trusted UK suppliers. Each piece is bench made in 18 carat gold with natural diamonds and gemstones. Stones are hand matched before setting and every jewel is inspected after setting and finished by hand for longevity, comfort and precision, with London hallmarking where applicable, so that pieces can be worn every day. Alongside the core range the studio also takes custom orders for made to order rings and personalised pieces, helping clients choose diamonds within a budget and refine a minimal design that fits their style.

Style and aesthetic. The look is modern classic with clean lines, delicate proportions and a quietly refined finish. Lena Cohen focuses on solid gold jewellery for everyday life, from simple 18k gold studs for sensitive ears to slim diamond huggies, fine gold chains and stackable rings, creating minimalist everyday fine jewellery made for routine and longevity, a discreet companion to a considered wardrobe.

Lena Cohen Jewellery: Handcrafted 18 Carat Gold Jewellery, London, UK

We are a London based fine jewellery atelier. Through Lena Cohen Jewellery, a family run studio, we create contemporary pieces in 18 carat solid gold with natural diamonds and gemstones. Our focus is modern classics: diamond studs, huggie hoops and charms, fine necklaces, pendants and rings. Pieces are bench made in small batches and built for everyday style. We also offer bespoke, made to order work: stone curation, proportion studies and precise hand finishing rooted in British goldsmithing.

Why this profession?

We grew up around traditional jewellery benches and were drawn to the quiet discipline of metal and proportion. London’s way of dressing, practical, polished and rarely loud, is our reference. We aim to make jewellery that lives beautifully in routine, pieces that integrate with work, family and city life rather than sit in a box. Watching how stylish Londoners wear daily outfits, tailored or relaxed, we draw in the missing jewel to complete the look, then make it at the bench for real. The result is jewellery that reads as part of the look, elegant yet modern.

What is our main target?

Most of our clients are women who know what they like: professionals, creatives, modern minimalists, along with stylists and thoughtful gift givers seeking handcrafted, independent jewellery from London. We work online and directly, offering personal guidance on sizes, proportions and curated ear combinations. Bespoke projects include engagement rings, one off pendants and considered ear stacks. Communication is human and direct: no bots and no outsourced helpdesk.

The materials we use most and where we purchase them

We work exclusively with 18 carat gold (yellow and white) and natural diamonds and coloured gemstones sourced through UK suppliers and studios, not mass channels. Stones are hand matched before setting; each piece is inspected after setting and brought to a meticulous hand finish. Longevity is our sustainability core: solid precious metal and comfort led profiles that encourage years of wear.

The techniques and tools we use (production and marketing)

At the bench we rely on hand fabrication and forming, micro setting (martini, bezel and prong), laser and torch soldering, precision polishing and quality control to London hallmarking standards. For bespoke, we may use CAD selectively to test proportions, but final pieces are bench made. In marketing we keep it authentic: real life photographs on real people, clear measurements and direct email guidance for sizing, with no AI chat replies, only our small atelier team. We prefer to work with real craft platforms rather than run loud, expensive ads that often inflate prices. We believe in community and word of mouth. It works for us.

Our view on the evolution of our profession: innovative or endangered?

Independent jewellery is both enduring and evolving. Hand skills and honest materials remain essential; clients also expect comfort, precision and quality. The opportunity is small batch craft with modern ergonomics such as low profile settings, better backs and custom post lengths. The risk is look alike mass production with short lifespans. Better education in materials and fit will keep this profession vital for the next generation.

How we learned and became professionals?

Our path is apprenticeship led and studio based, with over 20 years in London around traditional diamond jewellery. We learned fabrication, stone setting and finishing at the bench, then refined proportion and wearability by testing pieces in real life. The brand grew naturally into a focused line of 18k gold essentials and a respectful bespoke practice.

Our recommendations to young people interested in this profession

Master the basics: saw, file, solder, set and polish; clean work from every angle. There are no small details. Design for comfort and proportion: jewellery must sit correctly on the body and add beauty to the wearer, not take it for itself. Be uncompromising about materials and sourcing. Keep it small and exact: sometimes it is tempting to buy in bulk and jump on the hamster wheel; don’t. Real fine jewellery builds a regular clientele; wait and build yours.
