The Handmade Things is the label given to the handbags, complements and other articles lovingly created by Master Craftsperson Marian Reyes using her own designs and carefully woven home-made materials. Marian began her career as a loom-weaver in the 80’s and in 1995 set up her own workshop in Castelldefels under the Entramats label. During that time, she wove shawls, scarves and some domestic objects and combined the production of her pieces with teaching and taking part in different craft fairs.
Around 2005, she felt the need to create a new line of products. She and Rosa G Barüch, a top-line pattern designer and seamstress, pooled their knowledge and decided to put their names together and to take on the creation of hand-bags under the label Reyes y Barüch. Barüch left the project after a few years, but Marian went ahead with the help of another seamstress, Susagna. In this way, The Handmade Things was born in 2012. In 2009, Marian received a diploma as Master Craftsperson in the speciality of weaving which was awarded by the Catalan Government, the Generalitat de Catalunya, for her varied professional career. Marian Reyes has participated in many craft fairs both in and outside Catalonia, for example, in Valladolid, A Coruña, Lormont, Getxo and Marseille. The Handmade Things has participated in three editions of 080 Barcelona Fashion and in all the editions of Craftroom, an annual, professional fair organized by the CCAM ( Consorci de Comerç, Artesania i Moda). In the 2012 edition of Craftroom, The Handmade Things won the prize for the best stand. In 2013, along with Marina Grafeuille and Eva Jové, two companion craftspeople, she opened Weavings, a shop in Barcelona. Marina’s original proposal was suggested to Marian and then to Eva. They complement each other perfectly, both personally and professionally, as only the products each has created individually are on sale in the shop. At this moment, Marian Reyes combines her passion for the art of weaving with another of her passions: the art of teaching what she knows. And for this reason she gives almost individualized lessons to anybody who wants to learn the art of weaving.
