Berta Blasi has a degree in Documentation from the University of Barcelona and a degree in Conservation and Restoration of Graphic Document from the School of Conservation and Restoration of Béns Culturals de Catalunya. Since 2008 he runs his own workshop.

In the workshop we only use materials that have been chemically and physically tested. They have demonstrated chemical and physical stability over time and have a controlled behavior towards aging. This way we can assure that none of the materials we use harms the restored piece.
The reversibility of materials is a very important point to consider when starting a restoration. Bearing in mind that most pieces will survive (or survive), we should think that in the future, more or less distant, the restorations we have made may need to be reversible, that is, eliminated or modified.
In restoration there is a concept called “false history”. The false history occurs when we are unable to distinguish which is the original piece and which is the area that we have reintegrated during the restoration. With the criterion of legibility, we always try to make our work easily identifiable.
As a trend of recent years we add the minimum intervention criterion. It consists in acting as little as possible on the piece, that is to say: if a book keeps a good stitching we will choose not to unstitch-if it is not strictly necessary.

Berta Blasi es licenciada en Documentación por la Universidad de Barcelona y diplomada en Conservación y Restauración de Documento Gráfico por la Escola Superior de Conservació i Restauració de Béns Culturals de Catalunya. Desde 2008 dirige su propio taller.

En el taller sólo utilizamos materiales que han sido química y físicamente probados. Han demostrado la estabilidad química y física a lo largo del tiempo y tienen un comportamiento controlado ante el envejecimiento. Así podemos asegurar que ninguno de los materiales que utilizamos perjudica la pieza restaurada.
La reversibilidad de los materiales es un punto muy importante a tener en cuenta cuando se inicia una restauración. Teniendo en cuenta que la mayoría de piezas nos sobrevivirán (o deberían sobrevivir), debemos pensar que en un futuro, más o menos lejano, las restauraciones que hemos realizado podrían necesitar ser reversibilitzades, es decir, eliminadas o modificadas.
En restauración hay un concepto que se llama “falso histórico”. El falso histórico se produce cuando somos incapaces de distinguir cuál es la pieza original y cuál es la zona que hemos reintegrado durante la restauración. Con el criterio de la legibilidad siempre procuramos que nuestro trabajo sea fácilmente identificable.
Como tendencia de los últimos años añadimos el criterio de la mínima intervención . Consiste en actuar lo menos posible sobre la pieza, es decir: si un libro conserva un buen cosido optaremos por no descoser-si no es estrictamente necesario.
