2025 marks a pivotal year for the European Union’s strategic direction. The Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture & Sport will spearhead the ‘Culture Compass,’ a new strategic framework aimed at leveraging the various dimensions of culture. As culture is poised to be Europe’s guiding star, the crucial question is: where will this strategy lead?
Simultaneously, the spotlight is on the upcoming Multi-annual Financial Framework (MFF)—the EU’s forthcoming seven-year budget characterized as “simpler, more focused, and adaptable,” poised to introduce significant shifts. With the critical role of culture in mind, its integration into this budget remains a key topic of discussion.
You are cordially invited to join Culture Action Europe (CAE), Europa Nostra, and the European Cultural Foundation (ECF) for an online policy dialogue titled “Culture: the Compass for Europe’s Future.” This event is set to occur on February 4, 2025, from 14:00 to 18:00.
This political dialogue arrives at a critical moment marked by uncertainty and radical political changes, emphasizing culture as Europe’s beacon for a democratic, united, and resilient future. It also coincides with the start of the new European Commission’s term and sets the stage for debates on the ‘Culture Compass’ and the MFF.
The discussion will feature key European policymakers, including Glenn Micallef, the new Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, and other significant figures from the cultural and creative sectors. They will address how culture and cultural heritage can become central through ambitious leadership and strengthen a shared European identity and public sphere.
