Festi’Van, held in Fayl-Billot in the Haute-Marne region of France, is a major event dedicated to basketry, willow cultivation, nature, and rural craftsmanship. Organized with the support of local institutions and basketry actors, the festival brings together artisans, designers, growers, students, and visitors through exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, artisan markets, and cultural activities celebrating woven crafts and natural fibres.
The festival is deeply connected to the unique basketry heritage of Fayl-Billot, considered the French capital of basketry and home to the École Nationale d’Osiériculture et de Vannerie, the only school in France dedicated to basketry and willow cultivation. Founded in 1905, the school continues to play a central role in the transmission of traditional and contemporary weaving techniques through professional training and educational activities.
Fayl-Billot also hosts the Maison de la Vannerie, a cultural and exhibition space dedicated to preserving and promoting basketry heritage through collections, demonstrations, and educational initiatives linked to the history and evolution of woven crafts.
Through Festi’Van, these different actors contribute to highlighting both traditional savoir-faire and contemporary creative approaches connected to willow, basketry, and natural fibre crafts.
