Stanisław Śliwiński is a sculptor and folk artist. He was born in Gdańsk and has been working in sculpture for 50 years. Stanisław Śliwiński is the president of the Gdańsk Branch of the Association of Folk Artists. He makes full sculptures and bas-reliefs, mainly in linden wood, on sacred themes (Sorrowful Jesus, saints such as Francis, Veronica, Mother of God, Christmas Cribs) and secular themes (figures of fishermen, farmers, old men, musicians).

Stanisław Śliwiński has developed his own original form of artistic expression, maintained in the convention of folk sculpture. He is also involved in imparting knowledge about sculpture and folk art by conducting classes and workshops in schools and museums. He is the author of recognized and valued works, participant in competitions, individual and collective exhibitions in Poland and abroad.

Stanisław Śliwiński has been working with the NMG Ethnography Department for years, sculpting live, selling his artworks and leading workshops at the Summer Ethnographic Fair.

Woodcarving is one of the oldest fields of folk art. Over the centuries it has been inspired by existing styles in art, but due to the non-professional nature of its creators, it shares many common features. The figures are compact, static and have unnatural proportions. They are often very colourful, but the colour palette is limited. Folk sculpture in Poland has traditionally been strongly associated with religiosity and rituals. Many old folk sculptures are so-called świątki, that is, depictions of sacred figures and religious scenes. These sculptures were mostly placed in roadside shrines or as roadside crosses. The sculptors created also figural beehives, which had a magical function in addition to being utilitarian. They were also keen to make toys, such as rocking horses and windmills. Contemporary folk artists also like to carve animal figures and scenes from everyday life.

Stanisław Śliwiński est président de la section de Gdańsk de l’Association des Artistes Populaires. Il réalise des sculptures en ronde-bosse et des bas-reliefs, principalement en bois de tilleul, sur des thèmes sacrés (le Christ souffrant, des saints comme François, Véronique, la Vierge Marie, des crèches de Noël) et profanes (pêcheurs, paysans, vieillards, musiciens).

Stanisław Śliwiński a développé une forme d’expression artistique personnelle, enracinée dans la tradition de la sculpture populaire. Il transmet également son savoir-faire en sculpture et en art populaire en animant des cours et des ateliers dans des écoles et des musées. Il est l’auteur d’œuvres reconnues et appréciées, et participe régulièrement à des concours, expositions individuelles et collectives, en Pologne comme à l’étranger.

Depuis des années, il collabore avec le Département d’Ethnographie du Musée National de Gdańsk, en sculptant sur place, vendant ses œuvres et animant des ateliers lors de la Foire ethnographique d’été.

Les sculpteurs réalisaient aussi des ruches figuratives, ayant à la fois une fonction utilitaire et magique. Ils fabriquaient également des jouets, tels que des chevaux à bascule ou des moulins à vent. Aujourd’hui, les artistes populaires sculptent aussi volontiers des animaux et des scènes de la vie quotidienne.

Stanisław Śliwiński es escultor y artista popular. Nacido en Gdańsk, lleva más de 50 años dedicado a la escultura. Stanisław Śliwiński es presidente de la Delegación de Gdańsk de la Asociación de Artistas Populares. Realiza esculturas completas y bajorrelieves, principalmente en madera de tilo, sobre temas sagrados (Cristo Doliente, santos como San Francisco, Santa Verónica, la Virgen María, belenes navideños) y temas profanos (figuras de pescadores, campesinos, ancianos, músicos).

Stanisław Śliwiński ha desarrollado una forma de expresión artística original, enmarcada dentro de la tradición de la escultura popular. También se dedica a transmitir sus conocimientos sobre escultura y arte popular impartiendo clases y talleres en escuelas y museos. Es autor de obras reconocidas y valoradas, y ha participado en concursos, exposiciones individuales y colectivas tanto en Polonia como en el extranjero.

Desde hace años, él colabora con el Departamento de Etnografía del Museo Nacional de Gdańsk, realizando esculturas en vivo, vendiendo sus obras y liderando talleres durante la Feria Etnográfica de Verano.

La scultura popolare in Polonia è tradizionalmente fortemente associata alla religiosità e ai rituali. Molte antiche sculture popolari sono i cosiddetti świątki, cioè raffigurazioni di figure sacre e scene religiose. Queste sculture venivano collocate principalmente in edicole votive o come croci stradali. Gli scultori realizzavano anche alveari figurativi, che avevano una funzione magica oltre che utilitaria. Erano inoltre soliti creare giocattoli, come cavalli a dondolo e mulini a vento. Gli artisti popolari contemporanei amano anche intagliare figure di animali e scene della vita quotidiana.

Stanisław Śliwiński to rzeźbiarz i artysta ludowy. Urodził się w Gdańsku i od ponad 50 lat zajmuje się rzeźbą. Stanisław Śliwiński jest prezesem Gdańskiego Oddziału Stowarzyszenia Twórców Ludowych. Tworzy rzeźby pełne i płaskorzeźby, głównie w drewnie lipowym, podejmując tematy sakralne (Chrystus Frasobliwy, święci tacy jak: Franciszek, Weronika, Matka Boska, szopki bożonarodzeniowe) oraz świeckie (postacie rybaków, rolników, starców, muzyków).

Stanisław Śliwiński wypracował własny, oryginalny styl artystyczny, utrzymany w konwencji rzeźby ludowej. Angażuje się również w przekazywanie wiedzy o rzeźbie i sztuce ludowej, prowadząc zajęcia i warsztaty w szkołach oraz muzeach. Jest autorem cenionych i uznanych dzieł, uczestnikiem konkursów oraz wystaw indywidualnych i zbiorowych w Polsce i za granicą.

Od lat Stanisław Śliwiński współpracuje z Działem Etnografii Muzeum Narodowego w Gdańsku – rzeźbi na żywo, sprzedaje swoje prace i prowadzi warsztaty podczas Letniego Jarmarku Etnograficznego.

Rzeźba w drewnie to jedna z najstarszych dziedzin sztuki ludowej. Na przestrzeni wieków inspirowała się istniejącymi stylami artystycznymi, jednak ze względu na nieprofesjonalny charakter twórców, posiada wiele wspólnych cech. Postacie są zwarte, statyczne i mają nierealistyczne proporcje. Często są bardzo kolorowe, choć paleta barw jest ograniczona. Polska rzeźba ludowa od zawsze była silnie związana z religijnością i rytuałami. Wiele dawnych rzeźb ludowych to tzw. świątki, czyli przedstawienia postaci sakralnych i scen religijnych, umieszczane najczęściej w kapliczkach przydrożnych lub przy krzyżach. Rzeźbiarze tworzyli również ule figuralne, które poza funkcją użytkową miały także znaczenie magiczne. Chętnie wykonywali również zabawki, takie jak koniki na biegunach czy wiatraczki. Współcześni artyści ludowi równie chętnie rzeźbią zwierzęta i sceny z życia codziennego.
