The Chaux – Un Matériau et ses Diverses Utilisations (1er Cycle) training program provides a comprehensive introduction to lime, covering its terminology, properties, characteristics, and production processes. Participants will gain hands-on experience in lime application, including masonry mortars, joint mortars, lime plasters, limewash, paints, and finishing techniques. The course also explores specific challenges related to restoration and conservation.
This training is offered in multiple sessions:
📍 Session A: February 3, 4, 5, 6 and February 10, 11, 2025 – Centre de la Paix-Dieu
📍 Session B: November 4, 5, 6, 7 and November 13, 14, 2025 – Centre de la Paix-Dieu
📍 Session C: May 12, 13, 14, 15 and May 19, 20, 2025 – Pôle de la Pierre
📍 Session D: August 25, 26, 27, 28 and September 1, 2, 2025 – Pôle de la PierreThe program slightly varies between locations. At Soignies, participants will receive a more in-depth practical workshop on lime masonry, while the session at La Paix-Dieu includes a guided tour of historic Huy, highlighting the extensive presence of lime in heritage buildings.
Recognized by the CRF, the course includes continuous evaluation during workshops, and a final multiple-choice test to assess theoretical knowledge. While the test is optional, it is required for those seeking a certificate of completion.
This first-cycle training is mandatory to access the advanced lime courses (2nd cycle), including sgraffito techniques, lime-hemp, lime coatings and washes, moldings, stucco, and staff techniques.
