Wood Inlay: Between Art and Restoration

Renato Olivastri

I have extensive experience in the field of antique furniture restoration, with particular expertise in inlaid woodwork.

I have taught Antique Furniture Restoration and Wood Inlay for over 30 years in both private and public institutions. For the past 20 years, I have been organizing courses and workshops in my own workshop.

The courses are generally individual, but upon specific request they can be organized for small groups (maximum 4 participants).

No particular skills are required to experience and learn the techniques of wood inlay (marquetry).

The course is open to everyone — to those who already work with wood and wish to deepen their skills, as well as to those who simply want to enjoy a creative hobby. The aim of the course is to provide the necessary knowledge to create inlaid works independently and to understand the use of wood inlay throughout different periods in art history.

It is not necessary to bring any tools or materials; everything needed for the experience will be available in the workshop.

Courses are usually personalized, and the schedule is arranged together with each participant.

Reservations can be made by email or by phone.

Fees per person:

Wood Inlay (32 hours): €800.00

Antique Furniture Restoration – Basic Course (40 hours): €1,000.00

Antique Furniture Restoration – Intensive Course (100 hours): €2,250.00

Wood Inlay Workshop (3 hours): €80.00

Workshop Visit (1.5 hours, min. 2 – max. 7 guests): €30.00 per person
