The Journée de l’Artisan, organized since 2006 by the SPF Economy with the support of the Minister for the Self-Employed and Independent Workers, is a unique annual event aimed at highlighting the talent and craftsmanship of thousands of artisans in Belgium. The 2024 edition will take place on Sunday, November 17, following the tradition of hosting the event on the third Sunday of November.
This day celebrates Belgium’s rich artisanal heritage, offering the public a rare opportunity to discover the skills and expertise of artisans across various crafts, including woodworking, jewelry, textiles, pottery, and more. The event is open exclusively to artisans who have received official legal recognition, a certification that guarantees the authenticity, manual nature, and artisanal know-how of their trade. Nearly 2,300 Belgian artisans currently hold this certification, and they can be identified by the “Certified Artisan” logo.
Throughout the day, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the world of craftsmanship through live demonstrations, guided tours, and hands-on workshops. Whether observing traditional techniques or engaging directly with artisans in their workshops, attendees will gain insight into the dedication and precision that define each craft. This is a unique chance to explore behind the scenes and appreciate the artistry and skill involved in handmade creations.
