From November 24, 2024, to February 16, 2025, a major exhibition bringing together some of the best European creators in the field of contemporary applied arts will open its doors at the former Abattoirs of Mons. This 6th edition will feature 58 artists from 16 European countries, showcasing around a hundred unique works. Two awards, each worth €3,500, will be presented to the winners, with the support of the World Craft Council Europe and the Ministry of Culture of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. The award ceremony will take place on November 23, 2024, at the Grande Halle des Anciens Abattoirs, 17, rue de la Trouille, 7000 Mons.
The exhibition aims to present the best of what Europe has to offer, through technically and aesthetically mastered creations. Featured are crafts in ceramics, glass, goldsmithing, wood, textiles, paper, and contemporary jewelry—works that showcase the mastery of craftsmanship. Beyond technical skill, the contemporary character of these creations is just as important to highlight. Today’s creators break free from traditional codes to question the world. New materials and techniques are added to traditional methods, creating an art form that is both modern and ancient, both codified and reactionary.
To give proper recognition to the mastery of the craft, BeCraft has given its event a new title: MAESTRIA.
