In December 2025, the new EU system for Craft and Industrial Geographical Indications (CIGIs) will come into full effect, enabling producers across the EU to begin submitting applications for CIGI registration.
In preparation, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) will host an online workshop from 30 June to 4 July 2025, offering technical and practical guidance to CIGI producers and producer groups. The sessions will be held in five languages (EN, ES, FR, IT, DE). They aim to clarify the system’s requirements and support both prospective applicants and stakeholders already active in the field.
Additionally, the European Commission has announced that producers in Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, and Sweden—countries that have opted not to designate a national authority—will be able to apply directly to the EUIPO.
