My name is Vera Zhotkevich Gutman and I am a felt-maker and a textile artist, living in Sweden and work with material from the nature. In my art I like to shape and arrange the feeling and experience that I find in the barren Nordic nature, its harsh beauty and the affluence of impressions that you get from it. I would like to make it possible to wrap oneself in a stone or a tree and feel the safety and security in a warm embrace even when feeling lonely.

The Scandinavian epos and lore that have been my inspiration for a long time felts together in a natural way with textile techniques from all over the world as an inspiration for a new story and maybe also a new possible interpretation of the material and form and its means and meaning. I make things for everyday use with a little fairy-tale within every product and I love to convey the feeling of being well grounded, roots to keep tight to what is loved most – the feelings that you get when being embraced by natures deep and beauty. In my felt-art I mostly use wool from Swedish sheep and alpacas, but I also use other kinds of wool from controlled origin.

If I use fabric for nunofelting I choose primarily reused/redeployed fabric.

I dye the textile either with biodegradable acid-dyes or with plants from my own garden and surroundings. I make a slow dying according to time and let the natural processes take the time needed. I believe in create things in a slow way with an idea and a feeling that they will stay put for a long time and carry on a story within from one generation to another.

Je m’appelle Vera Zhotkevich Gutman, je suis feutrière et artiste textile, je vis en Suède et je travaille avec des matériaux issus de la nature.
Dans mon art, j’aime façonner et traduire les émotions et les expériences que je trouve dans la nature nordique austère – sa beauté rude et la richesse des impressions qu’elle offre.
Je voudrais rendre possible le fait de s’envelopper dans une pierre ou un arbre, et ressentir la sécurité et la chaleur d’une étreinte, même dans la solitude.

L’épopée scandinave et les récits anciens, qui m’inspirent depuis longtemps, se mêlent naturellement aux techniques textiles du monde entier, créant une nouvelle histoire – peut-être même une nouvelle interprétation de la matière, de la forme, de ses usages et de sa signification.
Je crée des objets du quotidien, porteurs de poésie, avec une touche de conte dans chacun d’eux. J’aime transmettre ce sentiment d’ancrage, de racines qui relient à ce que l’on aime profondément – cette sensation d’être enlacé par la beauté profonde de la nature.

Dans mes créations en feutre, j’utilise principalement de la laine provenant de moutons et d’alpagas suédois, ainsi que d’autres laines issues de sources contrôlées.
Quand j’utilise du tissu pour le nunofelting, je privilégie des textiles recyclés ou réemployés.
Je teins les textiles avec des teintures acides biodégradables ou avec des plantes de mon jardin et de mes alentours. La teinture suit un processus lent, respectueux du temps et des rythmes naturels.

Je crois en la création lente, guidée par une idée et une émotion, avec la conviction que l’objet perdurera et transmettra son histoire de génération en génération.

Mi chiamo Vera Zhotkevich Gutman, sono felt-maker e artista tessile, vivo in Svezia e lavoro con materiali provenienti dalla natura.
Nel mio lavoro artistico mi piace dare forma e voce alle emozioni e alle esperienze che trovo nella natura nordica, nella sua bellezza aspra e nella ricchezza di suggestioni che offre.
Vorrei rendere possibile avvolgersi in una pietra o in un albero e sentirne la sicurezza e il calore, anche nei momenti di solitudine.

L’epica e la mitologia scandinava, che da tempo mi ispirano, si intrecciano naturalmente con tecniche tessili provenienti da tutto il mondo, dando vita a nuove storie e a nuove interpretazioni della materia, della forma e del loro significato.
Creo oggetti per l’uso quotidiano, ognuno con una piccola fiaba al suo interno. Amo trasmettere la sensazione di essere ben radicati, con radici salde in ciò che si ama di più – quella sensazione di essere abbracciati dalla natura profonda e dalla sua bellezza.

Nella mia arte utilizzo principalmente lana di pecora e alpaca svedesi, ma anche altri tipi di lana di origine controllata.
Quando uso tessuti per il nunofelting, scelgo principalmente materiali riciclati o riutilizzati.
Tingo i tessuti con coloranti acidi biodegradabili o con piante del mio giardino e dei dintorni. Seguo un processo di tintura lento, lasciando che i tempi naturali facciano il loro corso.

Credo in una creazione lenta, guidata da un’idea e da un’emozione, con l’intento che gli oggetti durino a lungo e portino con sé una storia, da una generazione all’altra.
