The 12-week furniture making course provides a solid foundation in woodworking, design, and craftsmanship. It is highly practical and intensive, covering wood selection, hand skills, power tools, and machine use. Theoretical aspects like timber technology and 3D construction support the hands-on projects. Students can also opt for a Level 3 qualification.
Course Structure:
- Weeks 1–3: Tool sharpening, joinery basics, steam bending, and traditional techniques.
- Weeks 4–5: Creation of a customizable tool cabinet.
- Weeks 6–9: Construction of a side table with a drawer and a cabinet with a lockable door, with an optional assessment for the Level 3 qualification.
- Weeks 10–12: Personal project designed with tutor guidance, showcasing learned skills.
Learning Approach:
- Hands-on training with homegrown or recycled timber.
- Inspiration drawn from boat building techniques.
- Access to personal workbenches, tools, and machine shop facilities.
