Organ builders are craftsmen who design, build, restore, maintain and repair musical instruments.
This profession requires expertise in woodwork, metalwork and skins, as well as in electricity and IT. It is not necessary to be a musician, but knowledge of music and acoustics is useful for this profession.
Holders of the Vocational Baccalaureate, a level 4 diploma, option “Organ pipe maker” are specialists in the creation and renovation of organ pipes.
OBJECTIVES
To be able to analyse and take into account technical specifications.
To be able to make, restore and repair all types of organ pipes: front pipes, stop pipes, etc.
To be able to build and/or restore organs or parts of an instrument.
To be able to recognise the styles of instruments over the ages and situate them in their historical context.
To be able to take part in the mechanical and sound adjustments of an instrument.
LENGTH OF COURSE – ENTRY TIME
The average time taken to access the course is between 1 and 4 months.
The course takes place over 3 years on a sandwich basis – possible adjustments: please contact the Centre de Formation de la Facture d’Orgues for further information.
The average length of training per year is 12 weeks at the Centre de Formation de la Facture d’Orgues.
