“ADELOS | Fragments of ancient buildings, modern infrastructure and vernacular knowledge, in the “Farmhouse of Markos”

When: 20-26 October 2024In collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades and the French School of Athens, we are restoring one of the preserved traditional farmhouses of Delos, known as the “Farmhouse of Markos”. The purpose of the restoration, which will be carried out using traditional materials and techniques, is to provide a new residence for researchers and experts working in the archaeological site of Delos.
In this context, up to twelve (12) participants from Greece and abroad, from different scientific fields (architects and engineers, archaeologists and conservators, anthropologists and artists), will have the opportunity to participate in the 7-day hands-on workshop that we are organising. This workshop is dedicated to the links between ancient and traditional forms of material knowledge and sustainable landscape futures.
The program spans seven days and includes:
- Participation in the preliminary restoration work, under the guidance of experienced craftspeople with expertise in monument restorations
- Participation in design and research sessions
- Attendance of lectures and presentations by different researchers and experts
- Visits to the archaeological site and vernacular agricultural complexes of Delos
