René’s work is informed by a sense of place. Having lived away from Ireland for 13 years she longed for connection and found it through typography and graphic illustration.
Screen printing is a tactile and physically demanding process that the artist finds energising and exciting, she prints onto paper and textiles including linen and wool. René has ancestry links to the linen industry, her mothers family were flax growers and her fathers flax millers.
The work often includes words as gaeilge, again reconnecting with her homeland. René works from a small studio in her Belfast home as well as the Belfast Print Workshop.
