The collaboration between the UNESCO Transcultura programme and Mad’in Europe on March 27 marked a significant step in connecting European professionals with young Caribbean creators through a workshop on mural painting. Bringing together experts from Belgium, France, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti, the event facilitated an enriching exchange on the skills and challenges pertinent to both preserving painted heritage and fostering contemporary creation.

Central to the discussions were themes surrounding training initiatives and the growing importance of addressing environmental concerns within the profession. Participants delved into the multifaceted nature of mural painting, highlighting its role in fostering creativity, personal growth, employment opportunities, and the preservation of cultural heritage. Moreover, there was a shared commitment to sustainability principles, recognizing the critical role they play in shaping the future of heritage preservation and development.

The discussion inspired this newsletter, in which we are glad to present some of the panellists and to offer you an overview on this way of expression across centuries.
