The Conques Summer School of Vernacular Arquitecture 2025

The Conques Summer School offers an exceptional opportunity to delve into the world of vernacular architecture and crafts. Over nine days, participants will immerse themselves in a comprehensive program that includes:

  • Lectures and Round Tables: Covering topics such as Romanesque architecture, stone masonry, lauze roofing, and carpentry principles.
  • Drawing Sessions: Focused on geometry, measured drawings of architectural elements (stonework, joinery, ironwork), and naturalistic and ornamental designs.
  • Guided Visits: Exploring the iconic abbey church of Sainte-Foy, including its tympanum, cloister, and the streets and timber-framed houses of Conques.
  • Craft Workshops: Hands-on sessions in ceramic ornaments, natural paintings, and more.

The program combines traditional hand-drawing techniques with practical exploration of the historic village of Conques, renowned for its timeless beauty and sustainable architectural practices.

Practical Information:

  • Accommodation: Shared rooms in La Maison de Conques, including bed linen, towels, and access to a kitchen, dining room, and terrace.
  • Meals: Breakfasts, dinners, snacks, and select lunches provided.
  • Transportation: Accessible by train and bus, with details available for the Compostelle Routes.
  • Schedule: Classes run Monday to Saturday (10:00 AM – 5:00 PM), with Sunday free for exploration or hiking.

Eligibility:

  • Open to participants 16 years and older. Applicants under 18 must provide written consent from a legal guardian.
