LA TABLE RONDE DE L'ARCHITECTURE

General presentation

La Table Ronde de l’Architecture (TRA) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and teaching a beautiful, human, and sustainable architecture, as well as the crafts associated with it.

In a spirit of harmonious cooperation and freedom, TRA brings together more than 500 members — artisans, architects, urban planners, historians, writers, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts — around the study of the millenary legacy of architectural traditions that prevailed until the advent of modernism, and that have enriched the world: countries, cities, and villages, all different and each more beautiful than the last.

TRA advocates for the rehabilitation of reason in the art of building. This is not only about the survival of our economy, ecosystem, and cultures, but about the very meaning we give to life. Attachment to history is not backward-looking; on the contrary, the most fruitful traditions are all born from a return to the past. Guided by reason and grounded in history, TRA extracts the fundamental principles from these traditions and applies them in a concrete and sincere way suited to contemporary architecture.

Firstly, we raise awareness among policymakers about the key issues in architecture (the durability of buildings and the beautification of cities).

Secondly, we teach architecture and the crafts associated with it. Our association aims to establish a new permanent school to train the next generation of architects in the art of building: architecture, urban planning, and traditional construction trades. The Architecture Round Table already organises the Belgian Summer School of Architecture every year, where students from around the world are trained for a month in a beautiful, human, and sustainable architecture. This school is a unique place of transmission and learning, a haven for preserving know-how, and a centre of excellence in architecture, nourished by crafts and historical knowledge. Students learn the rigour of drawing and composition rules; they train their eye and judgement through historical architecture; and they are free to draw inspiration from any era to design architecture worthy of our time.

OUR MISSIONS
  1. To promote the complete, coherent, and harmonious restoration of our living environments,
  2. To protect, adapt, and keep beautiful architecture alive at all costs,
  3. To teach the fundamental principles of the art of building, the only ones capable of ensuring the sustainability of our living environments,
  4. To advocate for public policies dedicated to creating living spaces designed according to the principles of a beautiful, human, sustainable, and accessible architecture,
  5. To defend the architectural identity of regions and the character of each locality by contributing to the development of protective urban, architectural, and construction codes,
  6. To unite crafts and disciplines in order to act effectively on architecture,
  7. To protect nature and maintain harmony between architecture and nature.
