Though happily working in all forms of wood carving, Cassidie has a developed a particular interest in carved bellows. Inspired by a pair she saw in a museum in New York, Cassidie designed and made her first bellows for her graduate show at City & Guilds of London Art School in 2015. Being particularly fond of objects which combine form and function, juxtaposing prettiness with practicality, she found bellows to hold infinite creative scope – able to take on almost any style and design whilst remaining functional and being beautifully tactile. Carving, for Cassidie is a craft which is deeply inspired by, but not limited to, subscribing to historic or modern aesthetics, but a medium which calls out to be handled, to be used, a multisensory experience, not exclusive to the realm of sight.
