Lottozero is excited to announce an OPEN CALL in its brand new Circular Wool Lab for designers and artists passionate about sustainable textiles. This initiative is dedicated to transforming rustic Italian wool—a byproduct of local dairy and meat sheep farms often discarded at a significant environmental and economic cost—into a sustainable and circular rawmaterial for the art and design community. This unique opportunity provides one selected participant with free access to Lottozero’sstate-of-the-art TC2 loom to explore,experiment, and innovate with this otherwise wasted material. The selected resident will have the chance to prototype newideas, produce limited series, and highlight the principles of circularity and sustainability in textile design.
Residency Benefits
Participants in this residency will receive 24-hour access to a personal desk at Lottozero’s shared co-working space and laboratory in Prato, exclusive use of the TC2 digital jacquard loom (3W, 110 cm weaving width, warped at 12 ends percm, 1320 ends in total, 100% black cotton), access to additional weaving, spinning, and knitting equipment as well as traditional and innovative weaving materials, mentorship, logistical, and technical support from the Lottozero staff to ensure the successful realization of the project, participation in company and museum visits for industry insights and networking opportunities, and a one-week stay in Lottozero’s brand-new residency apartment.
Residency Duration & Location
Dates: One working week, either March 10–16, 2025,or March 17–23, 2025 (applicants must indicate theirpreferred dates in the application).
Location: Lottozero, Prato, Italy. While initial guidance on using the TC2 loom and consultation on digital file preparation will be provided, residents are expected to have basic knowledge of hand weaving and will be responsible for the design and execution of their final piece.
