EARLY-LEARNING CLASSES

PRIMARY AND SECONDARY LEVELS (September to June)
Duration: 3 to 4 days (boarding or day school*)

The spearhead of the centre’s educational activities, the heritage and trades awareness classes offer a programme of discovery activities and workshop work. First, your pupils explore the site and its buildings and meet professionals from the sector. Observation assignments, hands-on activities, games and more make this a dynamic and interactive discovery experience. Next, the craftsman opens his workshop to your pupils, who experiment with a technique. In this way, they learn about different facets of the craftsman’s trade, as he shares his know-how with them. They work in real-life situations with real tools and materials. And just like them, you’ll be invited to take part in the workshop work and discovery activities.

Subjects covered: heritage, architecture, restoration and redevelopment, active discovery of the site (plan, organisation of buildings and natural features of the site, 2D, 3D), history of the site, archaeology of buildings, building materials, heritage trades, etc.

Types of activities: workshop work (cement-rockwork, copperware, carpentry, slate roofing, stained glass, stonemasonry, decorative painting, masonry, dry stone masonry, sgraffito, blacksmithing, carpentry, mosaics), heritage discovery (photo quizzes, team projects, document analysis, public speaking, etc.).

Target group: young people in 1st level of secondary education
Number of trainees: 5 participants minimum

*70-bed accommodation, with catering facilities, to accommodate classes during activities lasting several days and to help them get to grips with the site and the learning process.
