PRIMARY AND SECONDARY LEVELS (September to June)
Duration: 4 or 5 days (boarding or day school*)
Pupils are invited to take part in a workshop to find out more about heritage professions. They will explore and develop their independence and critical faculties as they carry out their work. They experiment with teamwork and collaboration. They develop their professional awareness and learn about the dangers of using construction machinery. In addition to workshop practice, time is set aside and fun and educational tools are used to tackle concepts specifically linked to built heritage and its restoration.
Subjects covered: heritage, restoration and redevelopment, active discovery of the site (board games and challenges), history of the site, archaeology of buildings, building materials, heritage trades.
Types of activities: workshop work (cement-rockwork, slate roofing, copperware, carpentry, decorative painting, stonemasonry, stained-glass, masonry, dry-stone masonry, carpentry, sgraffito, gilding, blacksmithing, mosaics), heritage discoveries (Artisan game, it’s a good idea!).
Target group: young people in 2nd level ordinary and specialised secondary education.
Number of participants: 5 minimum.
*70-bed accommodation, with catering facilities, is available for classes taking part in activities over several days, allowing them to get to grips with the site and the learning process.
