Crafting Contemporary Education: For Mad’in Europe, the Safeguard of Heritage begins with the education of youth.

Since November 2023, madineurope welcomes schools and educational centres of heritage-related professions among its selection of heritage professionals.

When we compare the practices in creative craftsmanship, heritage conservation and restoration across various European countries, the common denominators are often the lack of orientation programs and the scarce awareness on the potential of these career paths. However, this reality unfolds in the context of a growing demand for heritage professions in the employment market and in the face of a growing offer of heritage-related training, courses and workshops by schools and educational centres in the European territory.

In this respect, it is crucial to acknowledge the equal relevance of non-formal education provided by craftspeople who possess the necessary know-how to preserve skills and traditions. Their invaluable contributions play a significant role in ensuring the continuity and authenticity of cultural practices and craft techniques, further enriching the landscape of heritage-related professions.

Mad’in Europe’s commitment to heritage confronts the previously mentioned challenges with an ideal in mind: the creation of a supportive network and of a community that gathers not only crafts professionals, but also the very institutions that can bring about the active involvement of the next generation of heritage-professionals.

CYFE, a European project for youth

"Crafts, a future for young people! Young people, a future for crafts!"

Since 2021, Mad’in Europe has been involved alongside six European organisations (Aproximar, Esquare, Laja Foundation, Khora, Petrkíč Help z.s., San Giuseppe Onlus) in the Erasmus+ project Crafts Youth Future Engagement (CYFE), supported by the European Commission. CYFE was designed to raise young people’s awareness about the craft sector and of its essential role in the economy, heritage conservation and sustainable development, as well as about its employment potential.

CYFE GUIDEBOOK

A free resource (available in 7 languages) for youth workers and educators, as well as parents, who wish to introduce youngsters to the world of crafts. A focused exploration of the vast crafts sector through materials, techniques and skills, with particular attention to education and sustainable development.
